San Pasqual Rolls Past Mar Vista, 41-0

ESCONDIDO — Mike Dolan, San Pasqual High School football coach, said he was worried before Saturday’s 2-A quarterfinal game against Mar Vista.
He worried about how his offensive guards would line up against a larger Mar Vista line. He worried about whether his players could get the ball to wide receiver Chris Nottoli. He worried about being eliminated.
Dolan needn’t have worried so.
San Pasqual beat Mar Vista, 41-0, in front of 2,000 at San Pasqual High.
Guards Eric Thomas and Rick Petrungaro opened big holes for running backs Juan Garcia and Dave Emerson.
Garcia scored three touchdowns and Emerson scored one in the first half to give San Pasqual a 28-0 lead.
And Nottoli? San Pasqual threw to him once on a 36-yard touchdown play that was called back because of a penalty.
“We didn’t need him,” Dolan said.
That was because San Pasqual’s running game produced 217 yards in the first half and 365 yards total.
Garcia, who scored on runs of 9, 2 and 19, rushed for 137 yards in 12 carries in the first half. Garcia did not play in the second half.
Emerson did not play in the second half, either. He scored on a 2-yard run with 7:42 to play in the first quarter and had 49 yards in 10 carries.
The offense had so many chances because the defense shut down Mar Vista (9-3), which had only 41 yards in the first half. San Pasqual (6-5) will play Lincoln next Saturday at a site to be determined in the 2-A semifinals.
