Nameless

There won’t be a “name” film opening the 1988 edition of the Berlin Film Festival. Instead, fest chief Moritz De Hadeln tells us, the Feb. 12 first-night program will be a new film by Reinhard Hauf (“The Stamheim Trial,” “Knife in the Head”), based on a long-running musical revue, “Line Number 1,” currently packing houses in West Berlin.

The movie, with unknowns, tells of a teen-age girl who runs into all kinds of Berliners while taking the subway in search of a rock star she’s in love with. De Hadeln admits the booking of the film is a bit chauvinistic on the part of the fest, which is known for bridging Western and Eastern Bloc culture with more international entries.

Other pics tentatively set for Berlin will be Spielberg’s “Empire of the Sun” and “Moonstruck,” starring Cher.
