San Diego Section Tennis : All Ranked Singles Players Advance in Individual Playoffs

Top-seeded Mimi Burgos of University City High School had to go three sets to defeat Andi Sissel of Fallbrook, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, Tuesday in the first round of the San Diego Section girls’ individual tennis playoffs at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club.

All of the ranked players won their first-round matches. Second-seeded Laura Richards of Vista defeated Kristy Howard of Monte Vista, 6-0, 6-0, and third-seeded Cammie Foley of Bonita Vista beat Jean Chase of Southwest, 6-0, 6-0.

In the doubles matches, the top-seeded team of Branaca Elsberry and Lynn Coakley of Bishop’s beat Negin Naghdi and Justine Lesch of Coronado, 6-0, 6-2. The second-seeded team of Carla Quaresma and Charlotte Skive of Poway defeated Sara Dulay and Candy Inman of Escondido, 6-2, 6-0.

Both the second- and third-round matches in singles and doubles will be held today, beginning at 1 p.m., at the Racquet Club.
