Five Japanese television makers denied a Commerce Department finding that they are exporting color picture tubes to the United States at unfairly low prices, spokesmen for the firms said. Last week, the department said color picture tubes from Canada, Japan, Singapore and South Korea were being sold at unfairly low prices in the United States. Sony, Toshiba, Sanyo Electric, Hitachi and Matsushita Electric Industrial said they either did not export tubes to the U.S. or did so only for use in their U.S. operations, not for resale.
