HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL : Chaminade Cruises to Title, 54-12
Chaminade struck swiftly and often Saturday and its defense held Pater Noster scoreless until the midpoint of the third quarter as the Eagles completed an unbeaten Santa Fe League season with a crushing 54-12 victory at Chaminade.
A 32-yard field goal by Chris Noonan was the prelude to a couple of early touchdowns for Chaminade (8-2, 6-0 in league play). Jonas Escalera returned a punt 56 yards and linebacker Chris Coyle picked off a Robert Rivera pass and raced 26 yards to give the Eagles a 17-0 first-quarter lead.
Chaminade’s defense produced another score, midway through the second quarter, when Eagle lineman Brian Consiglio forced a fumble that was returned 34 yards for a touchdown by Steve Rosen. The Eagles equaled their first-quarter production in building a 34-0 halftime lead.
Chaminade running back Tim Lavin scored two touchdowns and rushed for 110 yards in 13 carries.
