MADRAS, India — A 7-foot-long crocodile crawled out of a sewer onto a crowded street here Monday but was overpowered by zookeepers who stuffed burlap sacks in its mouth.
People threw rocks at the creature after it emerged from the sewer, forcing it to retreat, but it kept snapping at passers-by, causing panic throughout the street, witnesses said.
Police said officials from Vandalur Zoo arrived and stuffed burlap sacks into the crocodile’s mouth, then captured it and hauled it away to the zoo.
