Local News in Brief : Coliseum Renovations
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores has called on the Coliseum Commission to use a $19.6-million damage award received last week from the National Football League to make stadium renovations that would satisfy the Los Angeles Raiders.
Flores introduced a resolution calling on the commission “to work closely with the Raiders and do everything possible to reach an agreement which could convince the Raiders to remain at the Coliseum†rather than move to Irwindale. The resolution will be considered by the council today.
Flores said there is an opportunity for new negotiations in light of the failure of Irwindale to meet a Wednesday deadline for providing the land and financing for the move.
Meanwhile, the Irwindale City Council has appropriated $280,000 to hire two law firms, based in Chicago and Washington, to represent the city in its legal battle to consummate the Raiders deal, which has been delayed by a court injunction.
