A knife-wielding man who attacked a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy was shot and critically wounded Monday by the deputy’s partner, authorities said.
Lt. George Conahey said Salvatore S. Adragna, 41, of Moorpark, was shot three times in the 6 a.m. confrontation on Flory Avenue near the Simi Valley Freeway in Moorpark. Adragna was in critical condition at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. Neither deputy was hurt.
Food store employees cleaning a parking lot reported being threatened by a man with a knife about 6 a.m. Deputies Scott Miller, 39, and James Winstead, 33, spotted a man carrying a knife on Flory, Conahey said. He said Winstead fired after the man attacked Miller.
Conahey said Adragna was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer.
