Local News in Brief : No More Deteriorating Dynamite Discovered
A plastic-wrapped package of unstable dynamite delivered last week to the front desk of a police station in Pacoima by a woman not realizing its danger was not part of a larger cache of discarded explosives, Los Angeles police said Monday.
The unnerving delivery Friday afternoon caused evacuation of the Foothill Division station and an investigation into whether there could be more of the deteriorating and highly dangerous dynamite in the Pacoima area. Detective Richard Kensic said police traced the dynamite to a spot where it had been found discarded next to a road near Veterans Memorial Park north of Pacoima.
The area, in a canyon wash where trash is often dumped by passers-by, was searched by police, but no other explosive material was found, Kensic said.
Police said the dynamite’s original owner could face charges of abandoning the explosive, but there were few leads on who the owner might be.
