Attackers threw at least six bombs into a crowd at an opposition party meeting in Bangladesh, killing one person and injuring more than a dozen, police said. Witnesses said the bombs were thrown as retired Col. Abdur Rashid, co-chairman of the newly established Freedom Party, was addressing the rally at the National Press Club in Dhaka. Rashid was part of a group, including Freedom Party leaders Col. Farooq Reehman and his brother-in-law, Rashid, that assassinated President Mujibur Rahman and overthrew his government in 1975. Freedom Party organizers said the rally was attacked by activists from the Awami League, the main opposition party headed by Rahman’s daughter, Hasina.
