A man was slain Saturday during a dispute with another man who told police the victim was trying to break into his Encino home, Los Angeles police said.
Police did not disclose the name of the 32-year-old victim, who lived in Granada Hills, pending notification of relatives.
Daniel Shannon, 32, was arrested on suspicion of murder, Detective Larry Dolley said.
“There’s a self-defense issue here that the district attorney will have to decide,” Dolley said.
The shooting took place about 4 p.m. behind the house in the 5800 block of Hesperia Avenue, Lt. William Gaida said.
Gaida said the two men had argued earlier Saturday about a woman, apparently the girlfriend of the slain man.
Detectives determined that the victim was trying to break into Shannon’s house in the belief that his girlfriend was inside, Dolley said. The victim died after being shot at least twice with a shotgun, police said.
