Britain’s elite Coldstream Guards, who stand watch over Buckingham Palace, are under investigation on charges of bullying recruits, according to an army spokesman. The 550 men of the 2nd Battalion of the oldest regiment in the British army were confined to barracks while the commanding officer investigated allegations by a 21-year-old recruit that he was beaten several times by fellow soldiers. The ban was quickly lifted, however, when the investigation turned up nothing, and the military police’s Special Investigation Branch was called in to begin a full inquiry, the spokesman said.
