Orange County Prep Football : Sunny Hills’ Defense Shuts Out Buena Park to Secure 10-0 Win
Its offense hobbled by an ankle injury to quarterback David Chisum, Sunny Hills High School left the outcome of Friday’s Freeway League game to the defense.
A low-risk strategy.
The Lancers, who have given up only 18 points this season, recorded their fifth shutout, 10-0, over Buena Park in front of 2,500 at Spalding Field.
The Coyotes (3-5, 0-3) were limited to 136 total yards. Their only scoring opportunity ended when Sunny Hills’ Timothy Hoban blocked a 23-yard field goal attempt by Lonnie Legg.
Chisum sprained his right ankle in last week’s game against Sonora and re-injured it late in the first quarter Friday.
Although he finished the game, Chisum had his least productive performance of the season. After completing his first 5 passes, missed on the next 8 attempts and was intercepted 3 times. Chisum finished with 113 yards passing.
Chisum had previously thrown just one interception.
Even with the injury, Chisum was focal point of both of the Lancers’ scoring drives. His 46-yard pass completion to John Dysart led to a 37-yard field goal by Carlos Miramontes that gave Sunny Hills (8-0, 3-0) a 3-0 lead with 6 minutes 32 seconds left in the first quarter.
