Panamanian President Eric A. Delvalle accused Vice President Roderick Esquivel of not doing his job and said he dismissed Esquivel’s staff and closed his offices last week to save money. Delvalle commented after the newspaper Critica, controlled by the military, charged that Esquivel has been spying for the United States. It cited as evidence the presence of U.S. Ambassador Arthur H. Davis at the airport to meet Esquivel when he returned from a trip to Nicaragua on Sunday. The vice president denied spying and reiterated that he will not resign despite military pressure.
