It’s too early to say, but Barbra Streisand, Olivia Newton-John and Madonna are among the favorites vying for the lead singing role in a proposed film version of the London and Broadway musical hit “Evita.” A spokesman for the director said recently that “Platoon’ s” Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone will direct “Evita,” a biography of Evita Peron, former first lady of Argentina originally brought to the stage by Elaine Page in London and Patti Lupone in New York. Though negotiations between composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyricist Tim Rice and the Weintraub Entertainment Group are continuing, the film will be made, project spokesman, Al Newman, said.
