Resident of Homeless Tent Camp Shot From Speeding Car

A member of the Justiceville homeless encampment was wounded Sunday by a shot fired from a speeding car near Exposition Park, where homeless activists have been living in tents, police said.

Darrin Scott, 25, was shot in the back while walking across the street from the park next to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Police Sgt. Candy Holmstedt said. He was in stable condition at County-USC Medical Center.

Police said the shot was fired by one of four men who were in a dark-colored sports car. Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting, she said.

Ted Hayes, a homeless activist and leader of the Justiceville group, said he believes that the gunman was angry because homeless people are camping in the park.
