Crude oil prices seesawed in near-record volume but closed only slightly higher as traders were preoccupied with more dramatic activity in the stock market. The November delivery price for key West Texas Intermediate crude rose 7 cents per 42-gallon barrel to $19.87 on the New York Mercantile Exchange in heavy trading. Crude for delivery in later months retreated.
