The State : 1 Killed, 1 Hurt in Sacramento

One man was killed and another was wounded in an apparently random shooting at a busy intersection in downtown Sacramento, police said. The gunman poked a rifle out a side window of his car while stopped at 8th and J streets, four blocks from the state Capitol, and fired several shots at a group of pedestrians starting into a crosswalk, Sgt. Bob Burns said. An elderly man, who was not identified, was killed. The injured man suffered a minor neck wound. A witness said about four shots were fired from a white 1979 Ford Thunderbird before it sped away. “It was pretty wild,†Kevin Brown, 20, said. “There were people behind them (the victims) waiting to cross the street. They just scattered. . . . People were just running around trying to get out of the way.â€
