Library Help
I have been a full-time elementary substitute teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District for the past 3 1/2 years, and have taught in more than 30 schools, most of them near downtown Los Angeles.
I am writing to express my deepest appreciation for the wonderful service the Los Angeles Public Library system, and particularly the Echo Park branch. I especially want to mention the 30 books which LAPL has tracked down and sent to my nearby Echo Park Library through the Inter-Library Loan System. For a nominal (and incredibly underpriced) fee of 25 cents per book, they have provided me with books from as far away as Arizona State University, Berkeley and Riverside. These are books that I could not locate in nearby Los Angeles, Pasadena or Glendale libraries, and which have been of great use to me in preparing special lessons on seeds, postage stamps, etc., and have also provided me with much enjoyment and amusement.
The librarians and staff at the many (I’ve been to and used more than 20 branches, which is one of the joys of the itinerant life of a substitute teacher) branches of LAPL have been consistently helpful and considerate in providing me with services and resources that are too numerous to list.
I love and appreciate libraries and try to communicate that to the students in my classes.
