The Times editorial concerning Bush’s visit to Poland (“The Right Note in Poland,” Sept. 29), stated that the vice president was “striking the right note” by going to Warsaw. I believe that The Times cannot name the right tune.
Bush wasn’t in Poland to consolidate relations between two countries. The vice president’s trip was actually the most visible manifestation of improving his own chances for the Oval Office in 1988. If he were a man of integrity, true to enhancing the consociation between Poland and the U.S., Bush wouldn’t need to have a personal camera crew in tow taping his fancy endeavor for future campaign commercials.
The note that I found to be striking in Bush’s visit is that while he posed with Lech Walesa--the founder of Polish Solidarity--unions all across America have been broken and banned during the Reagan-Bush period.
