Blast Hits U.S. Consulate in Lima

LIMA, Peru — Two shopping bags containing bombs exploded in front of the U.S. Consulate early today in the first attack on an American facility in Lima in more than 17 months, a U.S. official said.
No injuries were reported in the blast, which knocked out windows up to the 10th floor in the 14-story building. The official said two explosions occurred at 5:55 a.m. after two men and a woman, all presumed to be left-wing rebels, left two shopping bags with bombs in front of the building in the seaside Miraflores district.
