Trio Held on $1-Million Bail in Bank Heist, Shooting of Officer
UPLAND, Calif. — Three men were being held on $1 million bail each after a bank robbery in which a police officer was shot and critically wounded, authorities said.
Officer John Carroll, 35, was in critical condition Wednesday in the intensive-care unit at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, about 40 miles east of Los Angeles.
Authorities said Carroll was the first officer to arrive after a silent alarm was triggered Tuesday inside the Home Savings of America branch on Euclid Avenue.
A third suspect, Marcelle Damon Williams, 18, of Gardena, was captured Tuesday evening and his identity was released Wednesday.
“I think we’ve got everybody who was involved . . . ,†an Upland police spokesman said.
He said Williams and Kenneth L. Chambers, 35, and Lee Goins, 33, both of Los Angeles, were being held for investigation of attempted murder and armed robbery.
Chambers worked as a janitor at one of the Los Angeles Police Department stations, said Los Angeles Police Lt. Dan Cooke.
The Upland police spokesman said their arraignments will be scheduled later this week.
