A North Korean gunboat attacked two South Korean fishing boats in international waters, sinking one of them, South Korea’s Ministry of Defense said. The sole survivor among 13 crew members aboard the sunken vessel told reporters in Inchon that the North Korean gunboat raked the ship’s decks with machine-gun fire, then rammed it. The fate of the second boat was unknown. South Korea called the incident “an outrageous act” and said it will file a protest. North Korea’s official news agency, monitored in Tokyo, said that an unidentified spy boat sank off the country’s west coast after colliding with one of its patrol boats.
