Local News in Brief : Horse Abuser Sentenced
- Share via
A Los Angeles man who admitted dragging his horse behind his pickup last year, but said he thought the mare was dead, was sentenced Wednesday to 45 days in jail for cruelty to an animal.
In addition to the time in Los Angeles County Jail, Edward Samuel Hardwick was fined $255 by Compton Municipal Judge Irma Brown and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service. The sentence was handed down after Hardwick pleaded guilty to the animal cruelty charge.
The 20-year-old mare was tied to the rear bumper of Hardwick’s truck and was badly mutilated after having been pulled for 2 1/2 miles through the streets of Carson last November. The horse died after Hardwick was stopped by police.
