Fresno-based Gottschalk’s said it will purchase Malcolm Brock Co., which has two department stores in Bakersfield and is building a third, for $7 million. Gottschalk’s operates 11 department stores in Central California. Completion of the transaction is expected by the end of October, Gottschalk’s officials reported. The Brock company was founded in 1924 by Malcolm Brock and now is run by his son, John Brock Sr., and grandson, John Brock Jr.
