CBS News, which in March fired nearly 50 “CBS Morning News†staffers as part of a 215-job, $30-million cutback, now may soon be hiring up to 60 persons for its new two-hour morning program, sources said Wednesday. It’s likely some of the “Morning News†workers pink-slipped in March will be asked back, provided they wanted to come back, one source said. A CBS News spokesman was unable to confirm the new hiring. With the axing of “The Morning Program†and the return of the key 7-9 a.m. weekday time slot to CBS News, the news division only has until Nov. 30 to create and staff the new broadcast that will succeed “Morning Program.â€
