Gas Station Attendant Slain by Bandits
An Oceanside gas station attendant was shot to death during an attempted robbery early Wednesday, an Oceanside police spokesman said.
George Holladay Sr., 55, was pronounced dead of a single gunshot wound to the head after being taken by paramedics to Tri-City Medical Center, Officer Bob George said.
“From what we can tell, Holladay was kind of a tough guy and would not have been obliging,†George said.
Holladay was shot beside the doorway of the office, then went into the garage, where his body was found beside the telephone. No cash or personal belongings were taken from the station at 477 Harbor Drive.
Several observers told police they heard a shot, then saw two men wearing dark clothes fleeing from the area. No suspects are in custody and an investigation is continuing.
Holladay was a retired Marine.
