Julia Child’s Crusade

Regarding the article on Julia Child and her hopes to establish the American Institute of Wine and Food on the UC Santa Barbara campus (“Julia Child’s Crusade,” by Larry Wilson, Aug. 16): I think it would be very appropriate. The UC Santa Barbara campus began its life as the Anna S. C. Blake Cooking School; then it became a Normal School, then Santa Barbara Teachers’ College, then Santa Barbara College of the University of California, then UC Santa Barbara.
Until a few years ago, one of its major departments was home economics, and it turned out many teachers, dietitians and people who went into many diverse related fields. I’m sure there are many of us home-ec graduates who would like to see the institute happen.
