COVERAGE OF THE POPE
The Los Angeles visit of Pope John Paul II will be extensively covered by local television stations.
KTLA Channel 5 will preempt regular programming for 48 hours of continuous coverage (with Spanish simulcast) beginning at 9 a.m. today. Special taped material will augment the live coverage.
Also planned today is the following TV coverage, which will include the pope’s arrival and downtown parade this morning and 6 p.m. Mass at the Coliseum:
KCBS-TV Channel 2--9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. (plus a taped review at 11 p.m.).
KNBC-TV Channel 4--9:30 a.m.-noon and 2:50-7:30 p.m. (plus a taped repeat of the Coliseum Mass at 2 a.m.).
KABC-TV Channel 7--10-11 a.m.
KTTV Channel 11--9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 3-9 p.m.
Additionally, the pope’s visit will be the subject on “Midmorning Los Angeles†at 9 a.m. (9) and on “A.M. Los Angeles,†9 a.m. (7).
On radio, news stations KNX (1070) and KFWB (980) will have many live reports throughout the day, including coverage of the morning motorcade and prayer service and this afternoon’s speeches to Catholic teens and communications leaders.
