The California Public Utilities Commission agreed to hold hearings on charges by a former PUC member that Pacific Gas & Electric used fraud and deceit to obtain the authority to operate its Diablo Canyon Nuclear plant. Former Commissioner William M. Bennett is trying to get PG&E;’s operating authority taken away. While agreeing to hold hearings sometime next year, the PUC dismissed most of the issues raised in Bennett’s complaint. The commission said those issues, including plant safety, are regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
