The San Francisco Symphony has signed its first recording deal since the early 1970s, it announced Tuesday. London/Decca records has signed a two-year contract with the orchestra and music director Herbert Blomstedt to make five recordings. Among them: Richard Strauss’ “Alpine Symphony,†Grieg’s “Peer Gynt†and four symphonies composed by Danish composer Carl Nielsen.
