FIRST OFF . . .
The product of three years’ worth of planning, ABC News’ “Capital to Capitalâ€--a troika of live satellite broadcasts linking members of the American and Soviet governments for discussion and debate--will become a reality Sept. 22, Oct. 14 and Nov. 18. “Nightline’s†usual 11:30 p.m. slot will be filled for the three nights by “Capital,†which will be the first television show to be broadcast simultaneously in the United States and the Soviet Union (where the broadcast, titled “90 Minutes,†will air at 7:30 a.m.). Meeting on the program will be members of Congress and deputies from the U.S.S.R.’s Supreme Soviet. Among the issues to be discussed are international security, human rights and regional geopolitics. “ABC Evening News†anchor Peter Jennings will serve as co-moderator with veteran Soviet TV commentator Leonid Zolotarevsky.
