Venice : No Shelter at Pavilion
The Venice Pavilion will not be used as a shelter for the homeless. City Councilwoman Ruth Galanter this week rejected the idea of using the beachfront building as a place to house more than 150 vagrants, saying that the pavilion would have to undergo substantial and costly renovation.
A special Venice task force on the homeless had suggested that the pavilion be used to house the area’s growing homeless population in a report issued last month.
Many residents had objected to the idea, however, saying that the beachfront was not the proper place for vagrants.
Galanter said she will seek other solutions to the homeless problem at a public hearing later this month.
