Long Beach : $325-Million Libel Suit Filed
- Share via
A Long Beach preschool owner with the same last name as a woman arrested on suspicion of murder and kidnaping has filed a $325-million libel suit against the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
Phyllis L. McKinney charges in the suit that the newspaper erroneously reported in a front-page article on Aug. 20 that crime suspect Glynnis McKinney was her daughter and an employee at McKinney’s preschool. In fact, the two women are not related and Glynnis McKinney has never been employed by the preschool, the suit contends.
In a statement published Aug. 21, the newspaper acknowledged errors in the article. But McKinney’s suit charges that the correction “was not substantially as conspicuous” as the initial article.
