A Downey couple who raised 15 children while operating a successful metal-finishing business with outlets in the United States and Mexico has been honored as California’s Hispanic family of the year. Pete and Macaela Martin, whose business has outlets in Lynwood, Stockton and Baja California, received the award during a dinner at the Los Angeles Hilton. The Martins, one of 10 state finalists for the third annual award, received a $5,000 scholarship.
