Support Group Director Receives Social Worker of the Year Award

James J. Kelly, who established and supervises a support group for the elderly at Leisure World in Seal Beach, has been named 1987 Social Worker of the Year by the National Assn. of Social Workers.
The award will be presented at the annual NASW convention in New Orleans, Sept. 9-12.
Kelly is the associate director and graduate studies coordinator of the department of social work at Cal State Long Beach.
In 1985, he was chosen as the U.S. representative to a United Nations conference on aging that was held in the Soviet Union. His support group at Leisure World involves bringing in college students and other young people to interact with their elders.
Kelly has also worked since 1985 with the AIDS Project in Los Angeles.
