A suspicious-looking briefcase found at Los Angeles police headquarters downtown forced a brief evacuation of parts of the building. A team of bomb experts dismantled the briefcase and found that it belonged to a vacationing detective who apparently had left it behind in one of the third-floor offices at Parker Center, police spokesman Fabian Lazzaraga said. The briefcase was discovered about 1:45 p.m., prompting the evacuation of about 100 people on two floors of the eight-story building.
