Duarte : ’09 School Renovation Set
The Redevelopment Agency and Hurbert and Charles Foulger have entered into a memorandum of understanding under which a 1909 schoolhouse will be renovated as part of Duarte’s new auto row.
The Foulgers will develop the auto row and relocate Foulger Ford of Arcadia and Santa Anita Acura of Monrovia to the new site on the northwest corner of Buena Vista Street and Central Avenue.
The land is now occupied by Northview Middle School and the Duarte Unified School District headquarters, which operates out of the schoolhouse. Under a land swap plan with the district, the city will build a new school and headquarters.
Preservationists have worked to save the schoolhouse, one of the few historic buildings left in the city. Under an agreement with the Foulgers, the building will be renovated and new auto row buildings will follow its architectural theme.
