The National Collegiate Athletic Assn. will not penalize Cal State Northridge for violations committed by members of its football coaching staff in January, university President James W. Cleary said.
Loans totaling $358.94 were made by Rich Lopez, Northridge’s offensive coordinator, to offensive tackle Eric Staggs so that he and his family could afford to move from their apartment in Folsom to one in Northridge.
Lopez, Coach Bob Burt, and line coach Jerry Campbell were officially reprimanded by Northridge officials. Cleary said he was notified by letter from David Berst, the NCAA’s director of enforcement, that no further action would be taken.
