Israeli helicopter gunships retaliating for a mortar attack that wounded six Israeli troops raided Shia Muslim guerrilla bases in southern Lebanon, killing at least one person, Lebanese police said. A military spokesman in Jerusalem said the Israeli helicopter gunships were sent on a routine search after the mortar attack and had fired at a vehicle that looked suspicious. The Lebanese police said two U.S.-made Cobra helicopters strafed and fired rockets at a village about 11 miles north of the Israeli border shortly before dusk. The Israeli spokesman said the soldiers were “lightly wounded.”
