Proposed Canadian legislation to set up a new national film distribution system is generating enthusiasm among distributors in that country, it was reported in the Toronto Star Thursday. The purpose of the legislation, proposed by Communications Minister Flora MacDonald, is to develop Canada as a separate national market for movie distribution (it’s usually lumped in with the United States). Hollywood studios now refuse to deal through Canadian film distribution companies and instead use their own Canadian affiliates.
