Australia completed a 4-1 victory over Mexico at Brisbane as Australia’s Pat Cash and Mexico’s Leonardo Lavalle scored victories in the final two singles matches, which were reduced to best-of-three sets because the series had already been clinched.

Cash, who won Wimbledon earlier this month, downed Jorge Lozano, 6-3, 6-4, while Lavalle beat Wally Masur, 7-5, 6-4.

India completed a 4-0 sweep of Israel at New Delhi as Ramesh Krishnan beat Amos Mansdorf, 10-8, 6-0. The final singles match was called off in the second set because of rain.

India, which clinched a berth in the semifinals Saturday, will meet Australia on Oct. 2-4, while Sweden will play Spain.

Ivan Lendl needed only 63 minutes to defeat Jimmy Arias for the singles championship in the $100,000 Head tournament at Stowe, Vt.

Lendl beat Arias, 6-3 6-3, to win the $30,000 first prize.

Neither Lendl, ranked No. 1, nor Arias, ranked No. 35, was pleased with the shifting winds at the base of Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak.

“I couldn’t go for the big serve because the wind was hard,†Lendl said.

The wind was tougher on Arias, who lost three games in the first set on double faults.

While breaking Arias three times in the first set, Lendl lost his serve twice. But he came up with the only service break of the second set.
