Tandon earned $5.6 million in the third quarter. A year earlier, the Chatsworth-based personal computer and disk drive maker lost $20.3 million, largely because of problems at a disk drive plant it closed in San Jose. The company said earnings were boosted by stronger sales of its brand name personal computers and 3.5-inch disk drives, especially in Europe. Revenue increased 58% in the quarter to $81.8 million.
