UNIVERSAL’S JOINT

No one I talked to said “Yes” to the Cineplex Odeon’s cinemas at Universal City (“Audience Says Yes to New Film Center,” by Carrie Yoshimura, July 7).
Never mind that parking is a torture test, or that the rows of seats are jammed together like the back end of a 747, or that the tiny, overlit auditoriums have slices of purple pizza hanging on the walls.
All might be forgiven if at least the sound and projection were state-of-the-art, which they aren’t by a mile. From the thinnest sounding THX in town, to a jumpy picture image that’s projected off-center, to a dirty print of “Dragnet” that’s a spider-web of scratches after only four days--it’s a disgrace.
The audience is listening and watching, and we’re getting better results at home with our state-of-the-art VCRs and stereos. From a person who loves the movies. . . .
