Boxing Roundup : Foreman Wins Second Comeback Fight by KO

From Times Wire Services

Former heavyweight champion George Foreman showed more power and less fat in the second fight of his comeback bid Thursday night, decking Charlie Hostetter in the first round and knocking him out at 2:01 of the third at the Oakland Coliseum Arena.

“I would sign today to fight anyone who’s recognized as the champion, and in six months I’ll be ready,” Foreman said. “But nobody wants to fight George Foreman.”

Foreman, 38, who quit boxing and turned to preaching 10 years ago, has a 47-2 record with 44 knockouts. At 249 pounds, he was nearly 20 pounds lighter than he was in his first comeback fight in March, when he stopped Steve Zouski, a slow, overmatched fireman, in the fourth round. Hostetter, 30, weighed 202.

At the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, Mario Martinez of Guadalajara was declared the winner after the referee stopped the fight at the request of trainers for Darrell Savoy of Carencro, La., at the end of the third round of a scheduled 10-round super-featherweight bout.

Martinez, 21 and 133 pounds, is ranked No. 2 in the super-featherweight division by the World Boxing Council. He dropped Savoy, 25 and 132 pounds, three times.
