American sprinter Evelyn Ashford sprained her left leg during the women’s 100-meter dash at an international track and field meet Thursday.

Marisa Masullo of Italy won the race with a time of 11.94 seconds after Ashford stopped 30 meters from the finish line while well ahead of her opponents. Organizers said the sprain wasn’t serious but that Ashford will not compete at Formia, near Rome, on Saturday.

Morocco’s Said Aouita failed in his bid to set a world record in the 800 meters but had the second best time of the year, 1:44.74.
