Mickelson Wins Junior Golf Title

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Phil Mickelson of San Diego shot a 71 Thursday to finish with a one-over-par 217 over 54 holes and win the boys’ age 15-18 division title in the Midwestern Junior Golf Championship at Otter Creek Golf Course.
Mickelson, 17, the 1986 boys’ player of the year in the American Junior Golf Assn., finished one stroke ahead of Harry Rudolph of La Jolla. Rudolph, 17, had a third-round score of 70 on the par-72 course. This spring, Rudolph had defeated Mickelson by one stroke to win the San Diego Section golf championship.
Jodi Figley, 18, of Aliquippa, Pa., won the girls’ 11-18 championship with an 11-over-par 227 after a third-round 79.
Figley finished two strokes ahead of Adele Moore, 17, of Dallas. Moore shot a 77 Thursday.
Ryan Reichley, 14, of Fairborn, Ohio, won the boys’ 11-14 title with a 54-hole total of 232, shooting an 81 Thursday. Finishing second was Daniel Stone, 14, of St. Petersburg, Fla., at 236 after a 77 Thursday.
