Tennis Roundup : Wilander Leads Favorites Into Quarterfinals

Top-seeded Mats Wilander beat 17-year-old Franco Davin, 6-2, 6-2, at Brookline, Mass., Thursday as the top seven players advanced to the quarterfinals of the $239,000 U.S. Pro Championships.
In other matches, Andres Gomez defeated Diego Perez, 6-4, 6-4; Kent Carlsson ousted Guillermo Vilas, 6-3, 6-2; Martin Jaite beat Francesco Cancellotti, 6-2, 6-2; Joakim Nystrom eliminated Craig Miller, 6-2, 6-2; Aaron Krickstein downed Andrew Castle, 6-1, 7-5, and Jimmy Arias defeated Pablo Arraya, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
In the only upset, No. 9 Thierry Tulasne lost to Tom Nijssen, 2-6, 6-0, 7-6.
At Newport, R.I., third-seeded Wally Masur ousted fellow Australian John Fitzgerald, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the $100,000 International Tennis Hall of Fame Championships.
Masur will play Dan Goldie--a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Marc Flur--in the semifinals Saturday.
Claudio Mezzadri of Switzerland upset No. 6-seeded Anders Jarryd of Sweden 7-6, 6-3 in the second round of the $230,000 Swiss Open at Gstaad, Switzerland.
