TOKYO — Japan posted a trade surplus of $6.61 billion in June, down from $7.36 billion in June, 1976, marking the second consecutive month the surplus has declined from its level of a year earlier, the Finance Ministry said today.
The decline was another indication that the Japanese yen’s dramatic 75% rise against the dollar since early 1985 is starting to shrink Japan’s trade bulge.
Before May and June, Japan’s trade surpluses in dollars had risen for 26 straight months compared to their year-earlier levels.
