A 19-year-old motorcyclist was struck and killed when he attempted to change lanes in front of a pickup truck on Interstate 8 Wednesday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Thomas A. Tominia, 19, of Lakeside, and another motorcyclist, Bryan K. Fejeran, 21, of El Cajon, were speeding west on the freeway, east of Greenfield Drive, about 7:15 p.m., CHP spokeswoman Celina Nickerson said.
The two motorcyclists were standing on their cycles’ pedals and did not have their hands on the handlebars as they passed a man driving a pickup truck, authorities said.
When the motorcyclists changed lanes in front the pickup truck, Tominia lost control and fell. The truck could not avoid striking him, Nickerson said.
Tominia was taken to AMI Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Nickerson said. Fejeran and the driver of the truck were not injured.
